Galvanic corrosion and cathodic protection of re-grouted, post-tensioned (PTd) concrete systems

چکیده
Grouted post-tensioned (PTd) concrete systems are widely used in long-span segmental bridges with a target service life of 100+ years. However, the usage inadequate grout materials and grouting practices have resulted formation unwanted air voids duct, which turn led to premature corrosion (say, within about 20 years) strands failure tendons. Also, re-grouting/repairing void regions localized at interface between dissimilar base-grout (usually carbonated) repair-grout. This study aims (i) quantify galvanic region PTd system re-grouted (ii) develop cathodic protection protect anchorage regions. Specimens simulating strand-grout-air (SGA) were prepared prestressing steel wires cementitious grout. The macro-cell current (galvanic current) steels embedded carbonated repair-grout indicated that can be possible SGA – reducing long-term structural reliability bridges. In addition, feasibility anode was assessed. For this, proof-of-concept conducted validate thin layer around strand will sufficient for (connected end outside tendon anchorage) portions inside duct/anchorage.

Mechanism of Corrosion of Steel Strands in Post Tensioned Grouted Assemblies
In this preliminary study, the complexity of the corrosion phenomenon of post-tensioning strands in grouted anchorage assemblies was examined and both physicochemical and electrochemical key technical issues were identified. Measurements of oxygen reduction efficiency in high pH electrolytes were conducted to obtain polarization parameters to be used in modeling. The time evolution of electrica...
متن کامل08398 - Detection of Corrosion of Post-tensioned Strands in Grouted Assemblies
The feasibility and sensitivity of electrochemical noise (EN), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and linear polarization resistance (LPR) for detection of corrosion in post-tensioning (PT) components was investigated. The use of the electrical resistance (ER) technique, as well EIS and LPR, to detect air space corrosion at the grout voids was also explored. The results showed that h...

متن کاملCorrosion and Cathodic Protection in Underground Piping Systems
THE GALVANIC CELL The major corrosion concern in the water works industry is “galvanic” corrosion. Galvanic corrosion takes place due to current flow in a “galvanic cell” which is defined as (1) two dissimilar metals, an anode and a cathode, (2) in electrical contact with each other and (3) a common electrolyte. A galvanic cell is produced when the pipeline components come in contact with the s...
